Event Report: Laughing Matters Fundraiser
On Saturday March 7th, 2015, Fineline Printing Group sponsored the Cancer Support Community of Central Indiana’s 20th Annual Laughing Matters Fundraiser, held at the JW Marriott in Downtown Indianapolis. Among the many attendees were Fineline’s Owner & President, Richard Miller, and Vice President of Business Development & Legal Affairs, Rafael Sanchez (newly elected Chairman of CSC Indiana). Other familiar faces included special guests Ralph Harris and Wayne Brady, along with Andy Mohr, Indiana’s Homegrown Auto Dealer, and Rafael Sánchez, Reporter for RTV-6.
This year’s entertainment was sure to keep everyone smiling with clean, fun comedy for all ages. Returning comedian Ralph Harris kept the audience in rolling laughter, joke after joke. Laughing Matters first-timer Wayne Brady got the attendees involved with his improvised songs created by taking random word suggestions from audience members, and turning questions from the crowd into jokes.
Altogether with sponsorships and ticket sales, the event raised an approximate $265,000. Money raised during the night came from the combination of a live auction, the raffling of a car donated by Andy Mohr, and something a little more “selfie”. While Mohr brought a car to the event, Fineline’s Rafael Sanchez “brought something [he] didn’t…a double”. Together, Sanchez of Fineline and Sánchez of RTV-6 asked the crowd to donate to CSC, and in return guests got to have their selfies taken with the Rafaels. A group of children wearing red “I am Cancer Support Community” t-shirts then scattered the ballroom with collection buckets while the Rafaels captured entire tables of people in their photos with help from the Selfie Stick.
Throughout the evening, the combined efforts of the live auction, car raffle, and “selfie ask” generated roughly $75,000 in donations for CSC, the Rafaels alone bringing in around $33,000. Needless to say, this fundraiser was a tremendous success and a fun-filled night for everyone involved. A special shout-out goes to Samantha Purdy for her heartwarming Thank-You letter to Cancer Support Community, reinforcing the purpose of the organization in ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.
